In this chapter, Valentino reminisces about the time that his mother was taken away from him. It describe how his mother was taken away on horseback by two men with masks on their head. Valentino and his mother were extremely frightened, and were desperately trying to hide in the grass. When they began to run, Valentino's mother convinced him that he must run on his own and that she must stay behind so they aren't seen. After this moment Valentino never saw his mother again.
